Back to school...

...Back to school, to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool. I got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight. Oh! Back to school... back to school... back to school. Well, here goes nothing.

6/21/10

First day of school was great. The classrooms could use air-conditioning but the ambiance of the place is intellectually stimulating. I really got the sense that I was in England when they served tea in between classes (which they have continued to do everyday) and during classes after the break you can hear the clinking of tea cups and saucers. Its all very proper. My International Comparative Entertainment Law professor is very interesting guy, he works at the firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, in LA and has already started with the client stories. My International Comparative Media Law Professor is also amazing. He is originally from South Korea but now teaches in Oregon.

After class I head over to the Tate Modern Art Museum. The place has incredible views of the Thames and I saw many great works. Some Warhols, a great display of Communist propaganda art, some Francis Bacon works which I recognize from the exhibit they had on him last summer at The Met and then I see some pieces like a mirror on the wall that makes me doubt modern art completely, and reminded me of the following joke.

What’s the difference between Art and Pornography?

I make my way back to the dorm, walking across the Millennium Bridge to catch the tube from St. Paul’s Cathedral. When I return I head to the Marlborough Arms (which has become my local pub) and watched the Spain-Honduras match with a Croque Monsieur and a pint of Guinness which is served ice cold here.

6/22/10 After class today I explore the student center for the very first time and am again impressed by the facilities. After I do my reading I head to Zoobar in Leicester Square with a couple of Soccer fans I found watching games in the dorm. We then head back and have dinner at Giraffe at Brunswick Centre (a very nice outdoorsy-type strip mall) by Russell Square before coming home to read some more and plan my upcoming weekend in Wales.
